E-Quip Course in Orthodox Christian Faith and Life
E-Quip Course in Orthodox Christian Faith and Life

Guide to Year 1

In Year 1 our three terms lay a foundation for more detailed work in the second and third years.

Term 1 introduces the student to the basic process of theologising in the Orthodox Church which removes this far away from the late academic and rationalising of scholastic western theology (both Catholic and Protestant alike) into the realm of direct encounter with God.  This term also includes four lectures on Salvation, a surprising and refreshingly different characterisation is presented from the Orthodox Christian East (which also once belonged to the Christian West)..

Term 2 surveys Liturgical Theology - with a section on Homiletics in each lecture covering teaching as well as preaching practice.  Resources here are also provided to enable choir masters to build the correct service options from the Typicon.

Term 3 explores the vast span of Church History in both the East and the West, Orthodox and heterodox.  Here you will find a rich interplay of theology and practice, of saints and sinners, of empires waxing andf waning.  This will help you to understand somewhat better our present world in both its glorious and tragic aspects.
